His Majesty Emperor’s Birthday Reception

On February 2nd, His Majesty Emperor Naruhito’s 66th Birthday Reception was held at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai.
We were extremely honored to have Mr. Rahul Narwekar, Honorable Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Rajesh Agarwal, Chief Secretary of Maharashtra and other senior state government officials were the Guests of Honour. Approximately 300 attendees were present, including numerous representatives from the state government, business community, cultural and entertainment sectors, the consular corps, and members of the Japanese community.
Guest enjoyed sushi, tempura, ramen, and other Japanese dishes prepared at the live cooking stations featuring the Consulate-General's Chef and Indian Goodwill Ambassador for Japanese Cuisine. Japanese alcoholic beverages Japanese strawberries produced in cooperation with the Japanese start-up and farmers in MH were also served. Additionally, Japanese government agencies, local governments, companies, and cultural organizations set up exhibition and information booths.
In his address, referring to Prime Minister Modi ji's visit to Japan last August, Consul-General Mr. Yagi expressed his intention to work together with the people of Maharashtra and India to open a new golden chapter in the “Japan-India Special Strategic and Global Partnership.” He specifically highlighted the active exchange of people and local government cooperation through tourism and culture, alongside economic activities including Japanese infrastructure support and the expansion of Japanese companies and investments, particularly in Maharashtra and Gujarat. He also introduced that the following year, 2027, will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. He expressed his hope for further people-to-people exchanges and strengthened friendly cooperative relations leading up to this anniversary noting that International Horticultural Expo 2027 (GREEN×EXPO 2027) is scheduled to be held in Yokohama City, which has a sister city agreement with Mumbai City.
