His Majesty The Emperor’s Birthday Reception was held on 11th February at The Taj Mahal Hotel to celebrate the 60th Birthday of His Majesty NARUHITO, the Emperor of Japan.
Mr. Dhananjay Munde, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister for Social Justice, was the chief guest for this reception. Around 350 guests including many VIP guests like Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar, Western Naval Command, Indian Navy; Admiral Yamamura Hiroshi, Chief of Staff, JMSDF; Maharashtra government representatives like Mr. Ajoy Mehta, Chief Secretary; Mr. Praveen Pardeshi, BMC Commissioner; top business leaders like Mr. Adi Godrej, Chairman, Godrej Group; Mr. Niranjan Hiranandani, President, ASSOCHAM & Hiranandani Group; Ms. Vidya Balan, famous Bollywood actress; Mr. Funatsumaru, Japanese Association President attended this reception.
Consul-General Harada, in his speech, emphasized the growing partnership between Japan and India in various fields, and of the support and cooperation being provided to India by Japan with regards to large infrastructure projects. He also stressed the importance of attracting more tourists from India in the year of Tokyo Olympics, and hoped that the Bollywood industry will contribute to this end. In closing his speech, he shared His Majesty’s strong desire for world peace and his strong determination to promote bilateral ties further.
Minister Munde wished for His Majesty The Emperor of Japan’s continued good health. While professing his gratitude for Japan’s continued support, he also hoped for continued growth in the relationship between India and Japan.
In order to promote Japanese Sake, Consul-General Harada had invited Mr. Kato, President & CEO, Kato Kichibee Shoten from Japan. He performed the Sake Barrel Breaking Ceremony on the stage with VIP guests like Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar, Admiral Yamamura, Mr. Adi Godrej, Mr. Pardeshi, and Ms. Vidya Balan. After the Sake Barrel Breaking Ceremony, all the guests enjoyed Sake and many different kinds of Japanese food, Tempura, and Maki-Sushi, Nigiri-sushi made by Chef Horiuchi.
