Japanese Students’Cultural Festival – Bunkasai

On 27th February, Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai and Teachers’ Association of Japanese, Mumbai organized and held the Japanese Students’ Cultural Festival (Bunkasai) at the Somaiya School in Mumbai.
The number of visitors exceeded expectations this year. Various workshops like Origami (Origami Mitra Mumbai), Kokeshi painting, chopsticks painting, Yukata wearing, Ikebana (Bombay Sogetsu School of Ikebana), calligraphy, Furoshiki wrapping, Kendama (teachers from the Mumbai Japanese School) were enjoyed by all.
There were many activities that were conducted for the first time this year. The Wagashi-making workshop conducted by the Consul-General’s chef, an exhibition of Japanese cultural items like Japanese dolls, replicas of Katana (swords), and ceramic plates, Omamori (protective charms) making workshop were among the few new activities. In addition, many Japanese enjoyed Indian culture through workshops like Rangoli, Saree wearing, and Henna designs which were aimed at cultural exchange between Indian and Japanese people.
