Japanese Students’ Cultural Festival – Bunkasai

On 18th September, Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai and Teachers’ Association of Japanese (TAJ), Mumbai organized and held the Japanese Students’ Cultural Festival (Bunkasai) at the Somaiya School in Mumbai.
 
The Festival included various events like the Japanese Calligraphy workshop and the traditional games workshop by the teachers of the Mumbai Japanese School, the Ikebana workshop by the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Mumbai Chapter, the Ikebana exhibition by Ms. Purnima Shah and her students at the Indo-Japanese Association Mumbai, and the origami workshop by members of the Origami Mitra Mumbai. In addition to this, the visitors also enjoyed painting their own Kokeshi dolls and Daruma, trying on Yukata (Summer kimono), and tasting Japanese food.
 
There were also a few unique events conducted at the Bunkasai. These included an exhibition of Hina dolls and Kokeshi dolls by the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai, a Wagashi workshop conducted by the official chef of Consul-General Dr. FUKAHORI, a tea ceremony workshop conducted by Mr. TAUCHI, Consul for Culture and Information, and a Rakugo workshop conducted by Mr. KURODA, a Japanese language advisor of the Japan Foundation. This event was a huge success and a true exchange of cultures as Japanese visitors also enjoyed various workshops on Indian culture like Rangoli, and Saree draping workshops.
