Visit to Mumbai by Parliamentary League on Promoting Activities of the ILO

From September 16 to 18, the delegation of Parliamentary League on Promoting Activities of the ILO, including Senator Ms. Mizuho Fukushima, Senator Mr. Ryuji Satomi, Senator Mr. Michihiro Ishibashi, Senator Ms. Mami Tamura, and Senator Ms. Mari Takagi, visited Mumbai and had the following site visit and workshop along with the Consul-General Ms. Sato Hitomi.
Visit to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Kaushalya Vikas Kendra
On 17th, the delegation visited Atal Bihari Vajpayee Kaushalya Vikas Kendra in Mumbai (CII Multi Skill Training Institute), established by CII, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. As part of the CSR initiatives of CII member companies, the facility offers a wide range of vocational training and job placement support free of charge for students and young job seekers. Nihon Edutech, an NSDC-certified sending organization, provides N5/N4-level Japanese language classes for the Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) and the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW).
ILO Project Workshop
On 17th, a workshop was held to exchange views regarding the outcome of the ILO’s Project “Promoting Rights and Social Inclusion through Organization and Formalization (PRS) – Phase 2” (hereinafter referred to as PRS Project), which is supported by the Government of Japan. Those who participated in this workshop include the ILO, Trade Union, and informal workers.
Through the PRS Project, support has been provided to informal workers engaged in waste collection and recycling of plastics in the suburbs of Mumbai by raising awareness of occupational safety and health (OSH) and enhancing access to social protection, with the aim of promoting formalization. At the meeting, participants engaged in active discussions on the importance of OSH on the ground, as well as the outcomes and lessons learned from the PRS Project.
