37th West Zone Japanese Language Speech Contest

On 14th February 2026, the Consulate - General of Japan in Mumbai and the Japanese Language Teachers’ Association, Pune held the 37th West Zone Japanese Language Speech Contest.
Students of Japanese language from the West Zone of India participated in this speech contest which was held across two levels – Junior and Senior. The participants showed the results of their practice, and the judges praised them for their efforts.
The judges for this Speech Contest were Ms. Megumi SHIMADA, Consul, Cultural and Information Section, Mr. Yoshiro SATO, Principal of the Mumbai Japanese School and Mr. YAMASHITA Yutaka, President, Japanese Association Pune. Mr. DEGUCHI Hideo, Vice Principal, Mumbai Japanese School and Mr. ASADA Masaharu, Teacher, Mumbai Japanese School were the Q & A judges. The winner of the West Zone Japanese Language Speech Contest will participate in the All-India Japanese Language Speech Contest held in Delhi.
The event also featured children’s dance performance using a Japanese song, the fusion performance of Indian classical music and Japanese J-POP, and Japanese cooking-demo by a Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador, allowing participants to enjoy various aspects of Japanese culture.
