His Majesty’s Birthday Reception

On February 10th, His Majesty’s Birthday Reception was held at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai.
 
Mr. C. P. Radhakrishnan, Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, was the Chief Guest at this event. At the same time, Mr. Rahul Narwekar, Honorable Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Mr. Jaykumar Rawal, Hon’ble Minister of Marketing and Protocol of Maharashtra, Mr. Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Hon’ble Minister of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation of Maharashtra, Ms. Sujata Saunik, Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, were the Guest of Honour. Approximately 350 guests attended, including many local government and administrative officials, business and cultural representatives, members of the consular corps, and members of the Japanese Association of Mumbai. At the venue, a large screen set up on the stage was used to showcase promotional videos for inbound tourism attractions and EXPO 2025. Also, Mr. Sekiguchi, who is the Consul-General’s chef, made sushi and Japanese traditional sweets, and Japanese alcoholic beverages were also served at the reception. Japanese administrative agencies, municipal governments, and cultural organizations set up exhibitions and PR booths.
 
At the beginning of his speech, Consul-General Mr. Yagi stated that Japan and India share a long historical connection through religion, while emphasizing that Mumbai is a key location marking the beginning of Japan-India economic history. He also highlighted that India is an important political, diplomatic, and security partner for Japan, referencing the 'Special Strategic and Global Partnership' as well as cooperation through frameworks such as the Japan-Australia-India-U.S. (Quad). On the economic front, he mentioned Japan's infrastructure support, including projects like the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), Metro Line 3, and the high-speed rail project. Additionally, he mentioned the strengthening of people-to-people exchanges, such as inter-university collaborations and sister-city partnerships through MoUs. Finally, he concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude to the supporting organizations and attendees of the Emperor’s Birthday Reception, including Miss Sake India 2024.
