The Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai along with Indo-Japan Business Council (IJBC) organised a 3 day Japanese Festival – Konnichiwa Pune – from 24th to 26th November 2023.
Commemorating the 71 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and India, the 3 day festival encompassed many different fields. The 1st day was dedicated to the education conference (at MIT World Peace University) while the 2nd day as well as the 3rd day, held at Phoenix Marketcity, were full of cultural events. The events on all 3 days saw a large number of visitors/participants.
Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. KANEKO attended the 1st day of the festival. The conference was inaugurated by him (Mr. KANEKO Toshihiro) and Shri. Rahul Karad - Managing Trustee & Executive president, MIT Group of Institutions were the Guest of Honor for the inauguration function along with Dr. R. M. Chitnis, Vice Chancellor of MIT WPU. He delivered a keynote speech on “Over 1500 Years Japan-India History & Maharashtra as Origin of Over 130 Years Japan-India Modern Relations” and “Japanese Education System & Japanese Government Scholarships” at the education conference.
The Cultural Festival was inaugurated by Consul General, Dr. FUKAHORI Yasukata on the 25th November. He attended the 2nd day of the festival. During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Fukahori appeared on stage for opening remarks and participating in Japanese Tea Ceremony demonstration. He also visited variety of exhibition booths and observed with joy that a lot of audience in Pune is showed great interest in Japan. The Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai displayed Japanese food samples, Hina Dolls and Kokeshi Dolls at its booth. We also displayed Furisode Kimono at Kimono wearing booth. Many people who visited the booth were interested in Japanese food and the Consulate explained the food and dolls to the visitors.
Other events showcasing Japanese culture like Tea Ceremony Demonstration, Ikebana Demonstration, Nihon Buyou, and Cosplay Competition were also held at the Cultural Festival and enjoyed by all.
