Japanese Students’ Cultural Festival – Bunkasai

On 17th September, Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai (Consulate) and Teachers’ Association of Japanese (TAJ), Mumbai organized and held the Japanese Students’ Cultural Festival (Bunkasai) at the Somaiya School in Mumbai.
 
Many workshops were held like Japanese Calligraphy by teachers of the Mumbai Japanese School, the Ikebana by Ms. Preeti Khemka, the Ikebana International and the Furoshiki by Mrs. Kuroda, wife of Japanese language advisor of the Japan Foundation . The visitors also enjoyed painting their own Maneki Neko and Daruma, putting on Yukata, and tasting Japanese cuisine.

Additionally, a few unique events were held by the Consulate. Sado (Tea ceremony) workshop by Ms. HAMURO, Consul for Culture and Information, Wagashi workshop by the official chef of Consul-General Dr. FUKAHORI. Also, people, ranging from children to adult, enjoyed playing Kendama and Daruma otoshi for Japanese Games workshop and Manga Reading workshop.  
 
The event was a great success and a true cultural exchange as Japanese visitors took part in Indian cultural programs like Rangoli and Saree draping.
