Consul-General’s Commendation for Mrs. Gita Kantawala (Japanese Culture – Promotion of Origami)

On 23rd March, Consul-General of Mumbai Dr. FUKAHORI Yasukata conferred the Consul-General’s Commendation(*) on President of Origami Mitra, Mrs. Gita Kantawala for her efforts to promote Japanese Culture (Origami) which contributed towards the development of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India.
Consul-General Dr. Fukahori, while congratulating Mrs. Kantawala on her commendation, said that he hoped Mrs. Kantawala would continue her efforts towards promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
 
(*) The Consul-General’s Commendation is awarded to commend individuals and groups who have made significant contribution towards promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India.
 
・Reason for Commendation 
 
Since founding Origami Mitra in 1981, Mrs. Gita Kantawala has organised origami exhibitions, origami camps, and other events as a president of Origami Mitra. In addition, she has contributed greatly to the promotion of friendship and mutual understanding between India and Japan by inviting prominent origami artists from around the world to Mumbai and introducing the appeal of origami to Indians in this region by holding origami festivals and workshops.
