Book Donation Ceremony for the “READ JAPAN PROJECT” (Indo-Japanese Association, Mumbai and Teachers’ Association of Japanese, Mumbai)

On 3rd November, Consul-General of Japan in Mumbai Dr. Fukahori participated in a book donation ceremony for the recipients of the “READ JAPAN PROJECT” to Promote Understanding of Japan (*) conducted by The Japan Science Society(JSS) at the library of the Indo-Japanese Association Mumbai (IJA). Mr. Mehool Bhuva, President of the IJA and Ms. Sarita Sundaram, President of Teachers’ Association of Japanese in Mumbai (TAJ) received the books on behalf of their organisations.
Dr. Fukahori said that he hoped that many Indians visiting IJA would read these books to deepen their understanding about Japan which would help further the friendship between Japan and India. Mr. Bhuva and Ms. Sundaram stated that they would like to promote the use of the library using this book donation as a platform. They also thanked JSS for considering and choosing their respective organisations for this project.
The book donation by The Science Society will contribute in the strengthening of relations between the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai and the recipient organisations – IJA Mumbai and TAJ Mumbai. It will also help promote understanding of Japan in Indians who visit and are associated with these organisations. We would like to thank JSS for this opportunity.

Since 2008, the Nippon Foundation has been implementing the READ JAPAN PROJECT, a project to donate carefully selected English-language books on Japan to libraries and research institutes around the world, with the aim of promoting understanding of Japan among overseas opinion leaders and researchers who do not specialize in Japanese studies. Since April 2021, the Japan Science Society has been implementing this project as a grant from the Nippon Foundation
