Consul-General’s Commendation for Mrs. Shama Devare (Japanese Culture – Promotion of Sumi-e Painting)

On 27th September, Consul-General of Mumbai Dr. YASUKATA Fukahori conferred the Consul-General’s Commendation(*) on Sumi-e painting teacher Mrs. Shama Devare for her efforts to promote Japanese Culture (Sumi-e painting) which contributed towards the development of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India.
Consul-General Dr. Fukahori, while congratulating Mrs. Devare on her commendation, said that he hoped Mrs. Devare would continue her efforts towards promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries.
(*) The Consul-General’s Commendation is awarded to commend individuals and groups who have made significant contribution towards promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India.
・Reason for Commendation
Mrs. Shama Devare has been promoting Japanese Culture in Mumbai for many years through her efforts as a Sumi-e teacher and also by holding workshops and exhibitions in the city. Additionally, she has given lectures at colleges about Japanese culture thus contributing towards mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India.
