Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY2020

On December 1, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation (*) for FY2020, and Dr. Deepak Jayant Tilak, Vice Chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth(TMV), was awarded.
The contributions that led to his award are as follows:
Dr. Tilak has been the vice chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth since 2004, and has contributed significantly to the establishment of the Japanese Language Department at the TMV in 2008 and the establishment of the Japanese Language Master's Program in 2011. He has also emphasized Japanese language education and promoted exchange programs with international students. Now, TMV plays a central role in Japanese language education in India.
In this way, Dr. Tilak has contributed greatly to mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and India through Japanese language education in India. Therefore, he was awarded the Foreign Minister's Commendation.
* The Foreign Minister’s Commendation is awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendation also aims to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public towards the activities of the recipients.
