Namaskar!

I assumed the office of the Consul-General of Japan in Mumbai on 27th April. This is my fourth assignment in India; however this is my first assignment in Mumbai.

Mumbai is a thriving, dynamic big city and a major hub in India for a wide range of economic activities, including finance and commerce. I am both delighted and honoured to have an opportunity to serve at the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai, which was established in 1894 as Japan’s first diplomatic mission in India.

In recent years, under the framework of the “Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” Japan-India relations have been expanding and deepening across the fields of political, economic, and people-to-people exchange. As the Consulate-General of Japan, we intend to provide support in various ways to ensure that the diverse initiatives aimed at promoting exchanges, friendly relations, and cooperation between the two countries continue to be developed.

Next year, 2027 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. Under the “Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Ten Years,” which was announced during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Japan last August, we hope to promote progress in economic and business relations, people-to-people exchanges, and regional cooperation and exchanges within the five states under the jurisdiction of Consulate-General of Mumbai, with the aim of building a mutually complementary relationship that leverages the respective strengths of Japan and India.

We will do our utmost efforts to further advance the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and India across various fields, while taking your suggestions and advice into consideration, and we look forward to your continued support and understanding.

SATO Hitomi (Ms.)
Consul-General of Japan in Mumbai
