    Consulate-General of Japan sanctioned grants for following projects.

    1) Name of the Project: The Project for the Construction of a Training Centre for the People in Raigad District
        Name of NGO: Planning Rural-Urban Integrated Development through Education (P.R.I.D.E. India)
        Grant Amount: $ 123,427
        Date of Contract Signature: December 18, 2012

        Project: The grant will be utilized to construct a training center to support the improvement of lives of the people in Rigad District in a holistic manner. Not only trainings on thematic areas such as improvement of livelihood, health, vocational skills, and early childhood care and development will be conducted for groups of women, youth, adolescent girls, but they will also be able to utilize the library in the center to learn more about these topics.




    2) Name of the Project: The Project for Constructing a Multi-purpose Drop in Centre for the reduction of Sexually Transmitted Disease in Yavatmal District
        Name of NGO: Gramin Samassya Mukti Trust
        Grant Amount: $ 89,706
        Date of Contract Signature: December 18, 2011

        Project: The grant will be utilized to build a multi-purpose drop in center for people with HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted infections, and to equip furniture for the center. This will help reduce the infection rate especially among high-risk group such as sex workers and migrant workers by providing them with a space where they can have counseling, trainings on prevention, and opportunities to organize themselves into a community based organizations for their better social status.



    3) Name of the Project: The Project for Setting up of an ANM/GNM Training Institute in Datia District, Madhya Pradesh
        Name of NGO: Bal Mahila Vikas Samiti
        Grant Amount: $104,491
        Date of Contract Signature: December 18, 2012

        Project: The grant will be utilized to construct an institute where women in the region can learn to be Auxiliary Nurse and Midwife (ANM) or General Nurse and Midwife (GNM), and to purchase other necessary equipments for the institute. This will contribute to the improvement of infant and maternal health in the region and to women’s empowerment through capacity buildings to get employment as ANM/GNM.

    4) Name of the Project: The Project for Refurbishing the Medical Van and Setting up the Medical Equipment for Preventing Blindness Caused by     Diabetic Retinopathy in Dahod and the Peripheral Districts 
        Name of NGO: Ophthalmic Mission Trust
        Grant Amount: $114,452
        Date of Contract Signature: March 21, 2013

    Project: The grant will be utilized to refurbish the medical van and setting up the medical equipment. The medical van will be utilized for the medical team to conduct check up of Diabetic Retinopathy and simple treatments for the people in rural areas of Gujarat and nearby districts. Their activities will not only contribute to the prevention of the blindness caused by the disease, but also to increase of the access to the general eye health care and of the knowledge about the prevention of eye diseases in the rural area, where people do not have an easy access to the hospital for economical and geographical reasons.

    Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme:

    The Government of Japan offers a financial assistance scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP)” for development projects designed to meet the diverse basic human needs of the people in developing countries.

    This GGP scheme supports projects implemented by non-profit organizations such as NGOs, medical/educational institutes and local governments, who are eligible to receive foreign funds under the concerned law of the Government of India. The major priority areas of the GGP scheme are basic health care, primary education, poverty alleviation, safe drinking water and sanitation, environment conservation, public welfare, empowerment of women etc.

    The GGP has acquired an excellent reputation worldwide for providing timely support to the development projects, which directly benefit the local communities at the grassroots level.
