< Grant Contracts Signed in FY 2011 >
Consulate-General of Japan sanctioned grants for following projects.
1) Name of the Project: The Project for the Construction of a Hospital with a View to Reducing Mortality among Tribal Population Project: The grant will be utilized to construct a hospital in Banaskantha district of Gujarat to improve health status of the backward region. The grant will be also utilized to arrange gynecological and pediatric medical equipment along with general medical equipment and necessary furniture for the inpatient ward.
2) Name of the Project: The Project for Constructing and Equipping of Rural Hospital for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes Project: The grant will be utilized for upgrading rural hospital in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat, increasing the wards for the purpose of ICU, TB treatment etc. The grant will also be utilized to equipping necessary furniture for the inpatient ward.
3) Name of the Project: The Project for the Construction of a Centre for HIV/AIDS Orphans cum Community Centre Project: The grant will be utilized to construct a orphanage home to accomodate 40 HIV infected orphaned children in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra. The centre will also be utilized as community centre to train the local people for their better health and livelihood.
4) Name of the Project: The Project for the Construction of a Centre for HIV/AIDS Orphans cum Office for Community Health Project: The grant will be utilized to construct orphanage home to accomodate 50 HIV infected orphaned children in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra. The centre will be also utilized by the more than 100 field staffs who are working as health worker in the community.
5) Name of the Project: The Project for the Construction of Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Promotion Training Centre Project: The grant will be utilized to construct agriculture training centre which is aiming to promote organic farming in Hingoli district of Maharashtra.
Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme:
The Government of Japan offers a financial assistance scheme called “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP)” for development projects designed to meet the diverse basic human needs of the people in developing countries.
This GGP scheme supports projects implemented by non-profit organizations such as NGOs, medical/educational institutes and local governments, who are eligible to receive foreign funds under the concerned law of the Government of India. The major priority areas of the GGP scheme are basic health care, primary education, poverty alleviation, safe drinking water and sanitation, environment conservation, public welfare, empowerment of women etc.
The GGP has acquired an excellent reputation worldwide for providing timely support to the development projects, which directly benefit the local communities at the grassroots level.
