< Exhibition on Built Environment: An Alternative Guide to Japan >
The Japan Foundation Travelling Exhibition on Built Environment will be held in Ahmedabad from 23rd January to 4th February 2019 with the support of the Consulate-General of Japan in Mumbai.
In the late 19th Century, Japan was the first Asian country to undergo modernization. Along with rapid growth, this also created ecological problems.
This exhibition aims to examine how Japanese people have engaged and struggled with the natural environment, and succeeded in creating a locality which supported the modernization without destroying the natural environment.
Rather than considering individual aspects such as architecture or landscape, this exhibition approaches the subject from the unique perspective of built environments.
To showcase the diverse nature of Japan, an effort has been made to select at least one site from each of Japan's 47 prefectures focussing on different cities and regions.
The resulting exhibition promises to be a truly "alternative guide to Japan".
