“The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays" conferred on Mr. Vinaya Mehrotra


On 29th April this year, the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2014 Spring Imperial Decorations. Among 55 foreign recipients is Mr. Vinaya Mehrotra, President of the Indo-Japanese Association, Mumbai, who will receive “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays” for his contribution to promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding between Japan and India.

The Indo-Japanese Association, Mumbai, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in February 2014, was established with the objective of promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and India.

Mr. Vinaya Mehrotra has held several key positions with the Indo-Japanese Association, Mumbai. He was the Honorary General Secretary from 1997 to 2002, Vice-President from 2009 to 2010 and has been the President from 2010 till date. During this time, Mr. Mehrotra has been a bridge between Japan and India. He has been actively pursuing Japanese culture classes such as Japanese Language, Ikebana (flower arrangement), Bonsai, Sumi-e and Origami as well as organizing the bilateral cultural exchange events such as Japanese Language Speech Contests, Cultural Exhibitions and Seminars.

In the year 2012, the 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relationship between Japan and India, many cultural events were organized by the Indo-Japanese Association, Mumbai in cooperation with the Consulate General of Japan, Mumbai.

The presentation ceremony of the “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays” to Mr. Vinaya Mehrotra is scheduled in May 2014 at the Consulate-General of Japan, No. 1, M.L. Dahanukar Marg, Mumbai.
