Wadaiko Artist Profile

Yoshiko Harada -SIONE-
Resident of Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture

While being a member of the "Bingozao-daiko" a Wadaiko group harmonizing the traditional Japanese rhythm, she formed a band called "Koryuun - pair of Yocchan and Nacchan" in 1997 pursuing a unique taste. With the introduction of impromptu rendition and the groovy type swing effect created by Jazz, this group took up the challenge of introducing free and captivating new sounds of Wadaiko which were not explored so far. Focusing on Jazz, this band expanded its performance area by having fusion with a variety of genres like classic, rock, latin, dance and flower arrangement. In 2008 they won the Excellence Award in Tokyo International Wadaiko contest in the Big Drums category.

The Wadaiko unit "SIONE" was set up in 2010.
With concerts and events forming the major part of their performance activity, they are also giving Wadaiko classes to the elementary and middle school students and local Wadaiko clubs. This time she will tour India and perform as "Yoshiko Harada~SI0NE~".
